Factors that contribute to compulsive eating include stress, loneliness, heartbreak, and unresolved issues from the past. Do any of these apply to you? Has reading Women Food and God opened up any doors to your own emotional state?

Did reading the book make you more aware of events in your past that may be affecting the way you relate to food today? How many diets have you tried? They are not the source of this belief, they are only the expression of it. How has reading Women Food and God made you more aware of this behavior?

Have you found it difficult to recognize who you are? What is the link between the two? In what ways has Women Food and God given you insight into your spirituality? Why do so many people believe that weight loss and appearance is the key to a happy life?

How does our society, including the media and the multi-billion dollar diet industry, perpetuate this idea? Discuss this with your group—how and why do you think women criticize each other and themselves?

Geneen Roth

If you know that eating when you are not hungry will not nourish your body, what are you hoping to accomplish? She points out that all of this is okay, but these are decisions that we need to make consciously.

When she first started trying to come to a balance between her emotions and her body, she put on a lot more weight. And that's frightening.

But in the long run, it was worth it to be able to eat only when she was hungry, or to not beat herself up when she ate anyway because she recognized that food was performing another function that she wanted. Her observations really hit home with me. It was a relief to hear someone put my thoughts and feelings into words that I could directly relate to. I've been through all the disorders many reading this book have: This book landed in my hands at the time in my life when I was receptive to it.

Much like the author herself. I read reviews on this book and figured it was worth a shot. It was amazing. It's a book for those deep in the throes of compulsive eating, binging, bulimia, etc. It's for those of us that feel like we can never, ever be "normal" around food.

When food has become a force that controls your life and your happiness--when you can't IMAGINE ever being able to be comfortable with eating like "everyone else"--this book might be the one little gift that touches your heart and guides you into the transformation you are desperate for.

Then, she helps you to identify what's going on when you want to eat but aren't physically hungry. I have been incorporating her mindsets for 8 weeks now. I've lost 10 pounds as I'm naturally getting back to my body's normal weight It does not run my life anymore.

Sending love to anyone else out there who might be in this space and need something to come into their lives to transform their own hell. I got down to the last two chapters and hated this book so much that I stopped and threw it in the trash.
